Brian Albee practiced estate planning law in California for over 7 years before joining WealthCounsel in 2004, eventually serving as WealthCounsel’s Director of Software and Technology. In 2008, Brian joined ElderCounsel in order to develop ElderDocx®, ElderCounsel’s elder law document drafting system.
Along with Valerie Peterson (ElderCounsel’s CEO), Brian was instrumental in the development of the EC Veterans Asset Protection Trust®, a document that is used to help clients qualify for Veterans benefits. Designing this trust required in-depth knowledge of grantor trust and gift tax issues, and how they interact with estate inclusion rules.
Brian’s undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis, where he was a member the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. After an 8-year career with IBM, he went to law school at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California, where he was a Law Review associate editor.
